Autodromo Group C Digital Watch

The automotive-inspired timepieces from Autodromo have been amongst our favourites here at The Coolector for years now and, safe to say, we were might intrigued when we heard they’d ventured into the world of digital watches. We’re pleased to report they don’t disappoint with the Group C Digital Watch that is probably one of their most wonderfully retro releases to date.

Priced at £425, the Group C Digital Watch from Autodromo is, as the name suggests, directly inspired by Group C Era of endurance racing from 1982-1993 that saw the evolution of the sports racing car from an analogue, primarily aluminium racing cars into the digital, primarily composite racing car that is commonplace today. This digital watch is overflowing with old school cool features and will look great on any retro-aficionado’s wrist.

Autodromo aims to celebrate the dawn of the Digital Age with their super-cool Group C Sport Chronograph Digital Watch. The clean, slab-sided shape of the case reflects the rational aerodynamic forms of cars such as the Porsche 962C and the Sauber C9. The vibrantly coloured pushers are a knowing nod to the fluorescent-hued mirrors of Group C cars that allowed them to be differentiated at a distance at races such as the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Boasting a chamfered sapphire crystal case that brilliantly reveals the understated and simple black and white LCD module with blue EL backlight that will take you back to the simpler times of an era when this basic tool was the proto-“smart watch.” If you’re a fan of vintage racing, this is definitely the watch for you.

The Group C watch is extremely functional and can time laps (including split times), display the time and date with micro precision, and also has an alarm function for remembering important events. A reversible custom moulded FKM rubber strap secures it to your wrist, and 20mm lugs mean you can swap in any of Autodromo’s leather straps for fun.
